Taqwa: Protection from Fire
The Cow (2:21)
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ٢١
O humanity! Worship your Lord, Who created you and those before you, so that you may become mindful ˹of Him˺.

O people, worship your Lord who created you and those before you, so that you may become God-fearing.

[1]Even though the message of the Qur'an is addressed to all, benefiting from it depends on ones willingness and on God's succour in relation to that willingness. This is why the Qur'an first explained which kind of people can and which kind of people cannot benefit from the Qur'an. As this has been explained in the foregoing verses, the quintessence of the message to which the Qur'an invites all mankind is now put forth.
[2]So that you are saved from false beliefs and unrighteous conduct in this life, and from the punishment of God in the Next.
O mankind! worship your Lord, Who hath created you and those before you, so that ye may ward off (evil).

لوگو،1 بندگی اختیار کرو اپنے اُس ربّ کی جو تمھارا اور تم سے پہلے لوگ ہو گزرے ہیں اُن سب کا خالِق ہے، تمھارے بچنے کی توقع اِسی2 صورت سے ہو سکتی ہے

[1]اگرچہ قرآن کی دعوت تمام انسانوں کے لیے عام ہے ، مگر اس دعوت سے فائدہ اُٹھانا یا نہ اُٹھانا لوگوں کی اپنی آمادگی پر اور اس آمادگی کے مطابق اللہ کی توفیق پر منحصر ہے۔ لہٰذا پہلے انسانوں کے درمیان فرق کر کے واضح کر دیا گیا کہ کس قسم کے لوگ اس کتاب کی رہنمائی سے فائدہ اُٹھاسکتے ہیں اور کس قسم کے نہیں اُٹھا سکتے۔ اِس کے بعد اب تمام نوعِ انسانی کے سامنے وہ اصل بات پیش کی جاتی ہے ، جس کی طرف بُلانے کے لیے قرآن آیا ہے۔
[2]یعنی دُنیا میں غلط بینی و غلط کاری سے اور آخرت میں خدا کے عذاب سے بچنے کی توقع۔
اے لوگو! اپنے اس رب کی عبادت کرو جس نے تمہیں اور تم سے پہلے کے لوگوں کو پیدا کیا، یہی تمہارا بچاؤ ہے۔

لوگو! اپنے پروردگار کی عبات کرو جس نے تم کو اور تم سے پہلے لوگوں کو پیدا کیا تاکہ تم (اس کے عذاب سے) بچو

اے لوگو ! بندگی اختیار کرو اپنے اس ربّ (مالک) کی جس نے تم کو پیدا کیا اور تم سے پہلے جتنے لوگ گزرے ہیں (انہیں بھی پیدا کیا) تاکہ تم بچ سکو۔

اے لوگو بندگی کرو اپنے رب کی جس نے پیدا کیا تم کو اور ان کو جو تم سے پہلے تھے تاکہ تم پرہیز گار بن جاؤ

اے لوگو، اپنے رب کی عبادت کرو جس نے تم کو پیدا کیا اور ان لوگوں کو بھی جو تم سے پہلے گزر چکے ہیں ، تاکہ تم دوزخ سے بچ جاؤ

لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
... That you might be saved.
The idea behind the word is a shield or armour or defence, a form of protection.
There is a promised Fire that we are being warned about, a Fire that only those who are protected by Allah عزوجل will be protected from. That Day, there will be no other protection except Allah عزوجل 's Protection. So, the imperative to worship our Rabb (Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى) alone, who is our Creator and the Creator of those before us:
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ رَبَّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ ٢١
So, the next few ayaat go on to state:
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فِرَٰشًۭا وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بِنَآءًۭ وَأَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَخْرَجَ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ رِزْقًۭا لَّكُمْ ۖ فَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ أَندَادًۭا وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ ٢٢
وَإِن كُنتُمْ فِى رَيْبٍۢ مِّمَّا نَزَّلْنَا عَلَىٰ عَبْدِنَا فَأْتُوا۟ بِسُورَةٍۢ مِّن مِّثْلِهِۦ وَٱدْعُوا۟ شُهَدَآءَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٢٣
فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا۟ وَلَن تَفْعَلُوا۟ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى وَقُودُهَا ٱلنَّاسُ وَٱلْحِجَارَةُ ۖ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ ٢٤
وَبَشِّرِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍۢ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ كُلَّمَا رُزِقُوا۟ مِنْهَا مِن ثَمَرَةٍۢ رِّزْقًۭا ۙ قَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى رُزِقْنَا مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَأُتُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُتَشَـٰبِهًۭا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَآ أَزْوَٰجٌۭ مُّطَهَّرَةٌۭ ۖ وَهُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ ٢٥
Our Rabb is He who has not only created humans, but He also made the earth a bed, and the sky a ceiling, and sent water from the sky to bring out the fruits for us. So, we must not set up anyone equal with or parallel to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى when we know.
The Quran challenges the doubters who doubt what has been sent upon 'Our Worshipper (عَبْدِنَا)' to bring a surah like it (Surah alBaqarah). ...
In case of absolutely certain failure, due to their inability to do so, they are challenged to shield themselves from the fire (فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلنَّارَ) whose fuel will be humans and stones.
The believers who do acts of reform are given glad tidings of gardens with flowing water, fruits, and pure spouses, to dwell therein forever.
