Abraham (14:10)
Their messengers asked ˹them˺, “Is there any doubt about Allah, the Originator of the heavens and the earth? He is inviting you in order to forgive your sins, and delay your end until your appointed term.”[1] They argued, “You are no more than humans like us! You ˹only˺ wish to turn us away from what our forefathers worshipped. So bring us some compelling proof.”
Their prophets said, “Is it in Allah that you have some doubt, who is the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you, so that He may forgive you some of your sins and give you respite up to a specified term.” They said, “You are no more than a human being like us. You want to prevent us from what our forefathers used to worship. So, bring us some clear authority.”

Their messengers said, "Can there be doubt about Allāh, Creator of the heavens and earth? He invites you that He may forgive you of your sins, and He delays you [i.e., your death] for a specified term." They said, "You are not but men like us who wish to avert us from what our fathers were worshipping. So bring us a clear authority [i.e., evidence]."

Their Messengers said: "Can there be any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth?1 He invites you that He may forgive you your sins and grant you respite till an appointed term."2 They replied: "You are only a human being like ourselves. You seek to prevent us from serving those whom our forefathers have been serving all along. If that is so, produce a clear authority for it."3
Their messengers said: Can there be doubt concerning Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calleth you that He may forgive you your sins and reprieve you unto an appointed term. They said: Ye are but mortals like us, who would fain turn us away from what our fathers used to worship. Then bring some clear warrant.

Analysing the ayah:
...
their Messengers said
Allah has been sending messengers to all civilisations, across the world, to invite them ...
do you doubt in Allah
Many people have disbelieved in Allah, they doubt His Existence, they doubt His involvement, they doubt His Presence, the doubt His Responsiveness, they doubt His Judgment, ...
People disbelieve on so many levels, and common threads run across all civilisations.
Fatir (Separator) of the skies and earth
Allah separated the skies and earth, to give us another chance to earn forgiveness, and permission to ascend to the Gardens in the skies. I think the word 'Fatir' is the key which unlocks the believe in the need for judgement and forgiveness, and helps understand the purpose of this life. Consider the first few ayaat of Genesis.
The Quran quotes references made by believers to Allah as Fatir, in their conversations and in their invocations. [See Q6:14, Q6:79, Q11:51, Q12:101, Q17:51, Q20:72, Q21:56, Q36:22, Q43:27, and Q39:46 explicitly informs of the pending judgement, in this search result].
The third of the three ayat defining Deen-e-Qayyim (Standing Law of Recompense) also emphasises the term as [Q30:30 (فِطۡرَتَ اللّٰهِ الَّتِىۡ فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيۡهَا ؕ)].
Isn't it strange that people question the existence of Allah and His various attributes, but they do not question the separation of the earth and skies, and as to why or who is holding them apart?
He calls you so that He may forgive you your sins and delay you till a fixed time
Allah sends His Messengers with the final warnings. If the people heed and believe, the impeding punishment is averted, and they are allowed to continue living till their natural time of death.
The purpose of this life upon earth is to allow people repent from their evils ways, and thus seek forgiveness, and be forgiven.
they said, you are only 'bashr' like us; you intend to turn us away from what our fathers used to worship; so bring to us a clear authority (بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢ).
The same falsehood has been repeated throughout the ages, the same arguments, the same disbelief, the same resistance to believe in the One, True God, Allah.
People know that the skies are a wondrous creation; humans desire to travel beyond the earth; every time technology has sufficiently advanced, humans have attempted to escape the earth; there exists a lot of literature, science fiction, stories about space and outer space. To escape the confines of the sky we live within, and to go beyond, Q55:33 informs us that authority (بِسُلْطَانٍ) is required.
Scripture informs us that there do exist gardens in the skies, habitable places, but humans needs Allah's Forgiveness, Mercy, and Permission, Authorisation, to ascend to the Promised Gardens of the Hereafter. Towards that end, they need to place their faith in the Messengers of Allah, and the divinely-revealed scriptures.
